Utility Brushes

Swiss designer Carlo Clopath designed two series of brushes for this project: The square, portable multi purpose brush is a redesign of a classic brush series by Uno Brush. The characteristic milled gripping groove gives the raw, minimal tools a direction and articulate their usage. The hand mirror and hair brush for children have a rounded, soft shape that relate to the body as well as to the nature of the wood and almost seem asking to be taken in one’s hand. The wooden part of the brushes are milled from Japanese maple wood at wood furniture manufacturer Karimoku for Uno Brush in Sumida. There, the brushes are completed by pulling in and tying the natural animal hair with metal wire by hand, bristle by bristle, as has been done for hundreds of years. [prototype]
